This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items I’m requesting will create a calm, sensory-friendly environment to help my students feel safe, relaxed, and focused during speech therapy sessions. Sensory mats, sensory dough, and tapping sensory lights will engage students' senses, helping them regulate emotions and focus. The rug will provide a cozy space for students to sit, fostering comfort and security, while the bookshelf will organize materials and provide easy access to speech therapy resources. Magnet blocks will support speech and language development through hands-on engagement, and balance stacking tower games will encourage cooperative play, patience, coordination, and spatial awareness. Sensory toys as prizes will motivate students and reinforce positive behavior, while Uno will provide an interactive way to practice communication, turn-taking, and social skills.
The primary goal of this project is to create a welcoming, supportive, and sensory-friendly space where students feel engaged and excited about learning.
By incorporating these materials, I hope to improve their speech and language skills, while also promoting emotional growth and self-regulation. This environment will encourage students to focus, practice, and gain confidence in their abilities, ultimately supporting their social interactions and helping them thrive.
For many students, floor play is an essential part of learning. Some prefer to engage with activities on the floor, which has been shown to enhance communication and language development. The rug will support this type of therapy by providing a comfortable, less restrictive space for interaction.
My students are unique in their challenges, yet each shows resilience and determination. They each have their own way of learning, and with the right resources, they have the potential to succeed. This space will allow them to develop their skills in a way that meets their individual needs.
