it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are vibrant, resilient, and determined, navigating both the excitement and challenges of high school. They’re balancing academic expectations with social pressures, all while trying to figure out who they are and where they want to go.
The items I’ve requested are carefully chosen to provide a calming, sensory-friendly environment that will allow students to take breaks, de-stress, and refocus.
Here’s how each item will contribute to their mental and emotional well-being:
This floor lamp will allow students to personalize the mood, helping them relax with colors and light patterns that encourage a sense of calm and focus.
Fidget toys give students a way to manage nervous tension, helping them improve focus and maintain composure during challenging moments.
The weighted animal will provide grounding pressure, which can help students manage anxiety and feel secure, promoting a stable learning environment.
The Calm Balm provides an outlet for students to manage stress and frustrations healthily, teaching them coping mechanisms.
The Volcanic Motion Bubble Machine and Betta Fish Tank: These visual relaxation tools will give students a chance to “reset” by focusing on peaceful, slow-moving visuals, which can help calm their minds and return to class ready to learn.
String lights will create a cozy, inviting space, making it a place students feel comfortable.
My goal is to offer a supportive environment where students can develop self-regulation skills and coping strategies to handle stress. I want this to become a place students can count on when they need a mental break or to reset.
My students show up every day, ready to face whatever challenges the day may bring. They inspire me to be a better teacher, and this project is a way for me to give back by offering them the tools they need to thrive mentally, emotionally, and academically.
