I really hope your spring school experience wasn't anything like the one my students are experiencing right now. Our school is in an old building and the wiring does not support proper cooling systems. Our classroom on the top floor of the building is, to put it mildly, an uncomfortable place to be.
Our secondary public high school in South Brooklyn is an eclectic mix of wonderful characters who genuinely care about each other.
All types of learners work together in an integrated environment including students with disabilities and English language learners. Unique about our integrated co-teaching environment is how accepting students are of each other no matter their background or learning style. The acceptance of everyone in every activity no matter their challenge is what makes it a very special place.
My Project
My students are tolerating the heat but they look as if they are about to wilt; they need 3 fans! Once vibrant English classes now look lethargic and exhausted from the sticky climate in the classroom. If air would just circulate in the classroom, perhaps they would be able to focus on their upcoming regent ,just as they used to focus, before the temperature climbed to the point of unbearable in this old building. We need to keep our students inside, and in class, away from the beach, so they can continue to work towards the goals they were working towards before the classroom as sticky as it now is.
Your kindness will help students focus on their English class in a way they used to be able to focus.
Everyone is trying to get through the heat together. Some fans to move air may seem small but it will make a tremendous difference.
