Help me give my students an engaging, differentiated classroom environment and supportive materials (rolling cart, Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, headphones) to encourage a community of learners.
Kindergarten is an exciting year for students. It is a year of learning and growing as young individuals, and they start to become more independent throughout the year. Together, in our classroom, we learn the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, numbers and how to count, how to read and write, and begin to learn about the exciting world of science. We also learn how to play and interact with each other, how to get along with each other, and develop lots of important social skills that help us develop and grow as children and students.
In our Kindergarten classroom, we learn how to become a community of learners and take risks in our learning.
We develop this through encouraging each other, helping each other, and through our school's mission to Be respectful, Cooperative, Engaged, Mindful, and Supportive students (BCEMS). I encourage my students to do and try their best, work hard, and become cooperative learners among our school building.
Our school has 900 plus students who come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are a Title 1 school and a majority of our students receive free & reduced breakfast and lunch.
My Project
The items that I have selected will help to create and establish our classroom community and keep my students engaged. The clothespins I selected will be used in a variety of ways throughout the classroom such as choosing their center, labeling their belongings or work, showing their feelings on the feelings chart (aligned with our Zones of Regulation curriculum), or indicating where they maybe if they have to leave the classroom. The Hamilton Educational Player, the headphones, and the rolling activity cart will all be used to set up our new Listening Center in our classroom. This will provide students an opportunity to listen to books on tape or CD, and it will help them to continue to practice good listening and reading skills. These all will be able to be easily sanitized and disinfected after any use of them. The headphones will also be able to be used with other technology that we have in our classroom. The wobble cushion seats will be an addition to the other flexible seating that is available in the classroom. This will provide them with more choice when they are seated on the floor, or in their seat, and can help them to be more focused and engaged learners. I plan to use the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to get additional supportive resources, materials, and curriculum for Remote Learning to use with my students.
Engaging learners with a variety of tools, manipulatives, materials, and seating within their classroom environment, will help students be more focused and engaged in their learning.
It provides them with choice, flexibility, and gives all learners the opportunity to be successful in the classroom. It also encourages them to be a part of a community of learners, who are all trying hard, doing their best!
