A Community of Artists

My students need art supplies to execute prints that illustrate their written stories and mentor books they read. They will learn to focus on effective definition of shape, use of symbols, and impact on their audience.

My Students

When students are learning a new language, they often have a stronger understanding of subject matter than their vocabulary or self-confidence allows them to demonstrate. The capacity to learn is limitless, and students learning English have the experience of growing up with at least two languages and cultures. As teachers, we must support and encourage their learning, confidence, and application of language, one way is through art.

My students live in a low poverty large urban city.

Our district has students from 55 countries speaking 48 different languages. Many of our students speak English but can barely read or write it. The magical moment occurs in my classroom while integrating art into literature and writing. While creating art, students ask higher level questions and have conversations that enrich their new language.

My Project

Motivating my students to communicate with each other is high priority. In order to foster intrinsic motivation, I create learning activities integrating art into their reading and writing that are based on topics that are relevant to them.

Giving my students a chance to create and work with their strengths is motivating for them.

Printmaking allows my students to try out lots of different techniques and to see cause and effect in action. They can use different paints and inks, try a variety of image transfer techniques, and print with and on just about anything. My students learn success doesn't actually depend on their skills, abilities, talents, or intelligence. What they need to succeed is perseverance. These are supplies will give my students another way to express themselves.
