Working in a school with over a thousand students comes with various levels of literacy. We are working hard to help students discover that while reading is important in academic settings, reading can also be for enjoyment! We are encouraging student involvement and community service by creating a space for student to read together! We hope to use this donation to make an area for students to explore different types of books! For our more reluctant readers, we are encouraging graphic novels as a place to start. Once they discover the magic of stories in their own reading, doing so in their academic lives becomes easier to digest. Where does community service come in? That’s easy, this space is being created for students to help each other find new stories and grow together. Using this donation, we want to create a safe space for community reading - where older readers can come help the younger ones. Therefore creating an in-school community reading program. Our desire is that this inspires students to do the same outside of schools in their neighborhoods and local library!
