My Students
I am lucky enough to teach an amazing group of 8 and 9 year olds who are eager to not only come to school, but to learn as well. This group is kind hearted and caring. They are always looking for ways to show or do a kind act for others and aren't afraid to be chivalrous. They enjoy sports, P.E., recess, jokes, playing tricks on their teacher, laughing, competitions, multiplication, cursive, and READING!!!
Most of my students have moved from learning to read, to reading to learn.
Reading for most of my students is no longer dreaded, but an exciting time to be persuaded, entertained, or informed (PIE). They are able to travel to far off places while at school and want to read whenever they can. I am hoping that their love for reading will continue to follow them on their educational journey.
My Project
My students need/deserve new seats that will help them focus while participating in our daily guided reading groups. These seats will help with posture, core strength, and the excitement of meeting to discuss the book their group has been assigned. These seats will service an average of 15 students daily, depending on if I meet with their group that day.
Along with the guided reading chairs, flexible seating, my students need books they enjoy reading, so they don't lose the love of reading they have just acquired, that are on their level.
I recently read a Bailey School Kids book with one of my guided reading groups and they thoroughly enjoyed the books and kept asking if they could read past our stop sticky. They looked in our school Library for them, which they couldn't find, and one even went to the public library because it wasn't available at our school.
