The children in my class live in a high poverty community. Many of them are refugees whose appreciative families have escaped their homelands in search of a better life in the U.S.A. Most of my students are English language learners. For some of my students, this is the first time that they have ever been enrolled in school.
They may come from all over the world, but one thing that my students have in common is that they love coming to school each day.
My classroom provides a safe and happy environment in contrast to the challenges that my students and their families endure daily as they navigate their new lives in the USA. Each morning they are lined up with heart-warming smiles eager to enter the classroom and start a new day of learning. Many of them have expressed that they would rather spend every day at school than at home.
My Project
It brings me joy when my students want to relax with a great book! I do whatever it takes to inspire my students to discover pleasurable reading. As they are immersed in a great book, sitting in a comfy chair in the reading corner of my classroom, children will appreciate the satisfaction of reading for enjoyment.
Encouraging students to be lifelong readers involves allowing students to have their choice of literature and a "sweet," desirable setting conducive to reading.
Funding my project reinforces my goal of encouraging students to become lifelong readers. The students will look forward to rotating through the quiet reading area during the language arts portion of blended learning time. Thank you for your support.
