A Comfortable Space for Overwhelmed Teens in Counselor's Office

My Project

I have been in public high schools for 10 years as a teacher and 2 years as a counselor. High school students face an enormous amount of stress from peers, families, and teachers. The counselor's office is one of the only safe spaces students can go to vent, cry, relax, and release emotions without fear of repercussions or judgment.

A rug creates a warm, inviting, and relaxing environment for students needing a safe space in school.

The main goal of this endeavor is to provide a welcoming space for students who show up in my office and need to feel comfortable on a day when they are overwhelmed, stressed, lost, or panicking. Many of my students suffer bullying, family struggles, an overwhelming sense of responsibility, and many other types of social/emotional distress. By donating towards this goal, you are contributing towards a safe and welcoming space that allows these students to relax, open up, and focus on solution-based problem solving. Many of my students come from a low-income background, and knowing that someone cares enough to donate towards their well-being and comfort can mean more than anything.
