My second grade scholars come from all walks of life. They range between the ages of 7 and 8 years old and receive their education in an urban environment with a population of 43.4% Black, Non-Hispanic, 26.5% Hispanic, 24.4% White, Non-Hispanic, and 4.6% Multiracial. My school participates in the Federal Free School Lunch program where 100% of our scholars receive a nutritional meal every day.
We are also one of few STEM schools in the school district that provide all of our scholars with equal opportunity for innovation, engineering and design principles, and stewardship within the context of cross-curricular, authentic problem-based learning units.
My Project
Many of my students are having difficulty sitting and hearing the content being taught by either myself or from the app being played on their iPads. The constant movement permits for behavioral issues and unwanted distractions from student outbursts and/or loud volume coming from their technology devices. In order for my scholars to be successful in every way, creating a comfortable and quiet environment is essential to their learning.
Having bean bags available for my scholars will allow for comfortable and flexible seating which would eliminate most of the unnecessary movement.
The headphones will cut down most, if not all, of the noise distractions that cause some of my scholars to get off-task. The whiteboard would be in a stationary place for students to use to show and record their work.
