The upcoming school year will be my 17th year of teaching 9th graders, ranging in age from 14-16, at a 7th through 9th grade junior high school. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Over 90% of my students receive free/reduced lunch, and many are also from homes where English is not the primary language spoken.
Our school is transitioning to a 1-to-1 Chromebook learning environment in the 2018-2019 school year.
My students will be required to use new forms of technology to enhance their learning and classwork.
Regardless of their challenges, the majority of my students are motivated to learn and make the most of their high school experience, so that they can succeed in college and/or careers.
A USB-connected document camera would allow my students to view primary sources and artifacts that may not translate well to a digital image on paper or a computer. Students cannot always see items as they are held up and it's not always practical to pass objects around.
Because our school has converted to Chromebooks this year, my older model document camera is no longer compatible.
A new USB-connected model will allow me to continue using a document camera. I will be able to use the IPEVO document camera via IPEVO Presenter, a free app available through the Google Chrome Webstore.
