My Students
The students in my class this year are thoughtful and sweet and are eager to learn everything they can under these special circumstances. They try their best to focus their attention on what is being taught while we are in a remote learning situation. They come into our "Zoom classroom" ready to learn the day's lessons. Although there are times we have technical issues, they have learned to be patient and understanding. My kindergarteners have inspired me and shown me that even under these unprecedented circumstances we can continue to be understanding when things do not turn out the way it should.
My Project
Children are like sponges. They absorb everything they see and what they're taught. Sharing a screen on the Zoom app has had its pros and cons. The children are able to see what I show them for the most part. However, when I want to use actual materials to show or teach the children something in math, science or reading clearly, it has been challenging.
A document camera will project what I want to teach on the computer more clearly.
I will be able to show the struggling children strategies for reading, like chunking words to help sound out unknown words. I will be able to use math manipulatives to help children understand math in a different way. I can show my eager class our caterpillars, or seeds and parts of plants. I will be able to model building ramps on my table instead of having to hold parts of a project and having the pieces fall out of my hands.
