This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students eat food items when they are hungry and if left to their own devices, on occasion will bite into a toy, book, puzzle pieces or other task materials that may appeal to their taste buds in that moment. Also, in the honor of "kids being kids", they will sometimes try to take a peer's snack that looks delicious, and in the process, knock a tray or water bottle over. My staff and I are constantly cleaning throughout the day and if it existed, would potentially hold a world record for tissue sprinting when a student blows their nose alarm.

All of my students are still learning basic living and self-care skills such as cleaning themselves as well as items in their environment.

The opportunities are endless for them to work on learning skills such as using a tissue to wipe their cute little noses and use hand sanitizer afterwards to play their part in stopping the spread of germs. With close adult supervision and assistance during mealtimes, don gloves and use the wipes, paper towels and non-toxic cleaning spray to wipe up those swift small spills and wipe down any toys that may have been accidentally mistaken for a tasty snack. Although milk mustaches with some crumbs for texture can be adorable, what would be even precious would be the radiating smile that would be seen after they clean their faces with a napkin or wipe.

Having basic classroom cleaning supplies access would not only help my students develop a variety of self care skills but would also ensure that each student plays an active role in helping keep our school community a clean, healthy and safe place for all.
