Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are my inspiration. My kindergarten classroom consists of 25 children from all different backgrounds. I have a large percent of beginner English language learners. The rest of my class consists of students with special needs and general education students.

More importantly my students are funny, energetic, creative, frustrated, shy, silly, curious, but most of all resilient.

All the diversity makes for a great teaching experience, but it also makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.

Every morning I start fresh and do my best to reach the needs, whatever they may be, of each child. My school has a very large population of low, socio-economic students. My school is a Title I school. Many of the children live in shelters and live in large multi-generational households. It would be awesome to give all these children the opportunity to meet their optimal potential.

My Project

As educators we understand the importance of fulfilling certain basic needs of our students. We understand that children can not learn if they are hungry. We understand the importance of a sanitized, clean classroom, especially since the Corona Virus is still around.

Providing breakfast in the classroom for children who come to school late is essential to their health and their ability to focus and learn.

I want to have an ample variety of non-perishable breakfast foods for my students who come to school hungry. This will provide them with comfort (not having to think about how hungry they are or worry about what time lunch is) all morning. This will lead to trust and academic success.

In order to keep my students, their families, and myself safe; I clean the desks, the flat surfaces within the classroom, and even the toys everyday. It is important to have cleaning supplies such as paper towels, Lysol wipes, and Lysol spray, on hand.
