A Clean & Calm Classroom: Supporting Student Well-Being

My Project
In our classroom, students are learning more than just math and reading—they’re building life skills that foster responsibility, emotional well-being, and respect for shared spaces.
To support this, we need tools that help students take care of both their environment and themselves.
What We Need & Why:
- Cushion & Fidget Items: I am creating a "mental health first aid kit" filled with sensory-based tools that will help my students calm, reset, and refocus when they need a moment to self-soothe. By activating their senses—touch, sight, sound, and even smell—they can ground themselves and get back to learning more quickly. When students have the tools to manage their emotions, they can stay engaged, build resilience, and develop lifelong coping skills. This Mental Health First Aid Kit will give them a safe, structured way to reset so they can return to learning with confidence.
- Spray Mop & Carpet Sweeper: These will empower students to take ownership of keeping our classroom clean, reinforcing responsibility and teamwork. My students love to care for our learning space. When I bring cleaning supplies from home, they respond with enthusiasm, often asking when they can use them. To encourage this sense of ownership and respect for shared spaces, I want to provide my students with their own cleaning tools: a carpet sweeper broom and a spray mop. These simple, practical tools will help them develop responsibility, teamwork, and real-life skills while keeping our classroom a welcoming and organized space.
The Impact:
By having access to both cleaning tools and self-regulation supports, students will develop practical skills and strategies that extend beyond the classroom. This project will foster a sense of pride in their space, encourage mindfulness, and support their social-emotional learning journey.
