Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This is my first year as a teacher, and it is the first year for our school to be up and running. These young students love to learn. These students love to learn about everything from animals to what sounds the letter "A" can make.

I am a Kindergarten teacher at a STEM school, so watching the students learn about all things Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will be very exciting.

I have seen children love to learn and in an inclusive environment and watched each student form a community based on similarities and differences. I am excited to start to work with children from different cultural backgrounds to help instill the love of learning.

My Project

I have very active students in my classroom this year. I think this could be a result not of their young age at 4 and 5, but of overstimulation created by the room. We have the largest classroom in our school which is a blessing, but this means that we can get overly stimulated from the lack of natural lighting.

In my classroom, we are completely windowless.

As a result, there are many florescent lights which I have noticed is overstimulating to my students. If we are able to lower the intensity of the lights with these light filters, then I think that my students will calm down.
