Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Most of my students are immigrants or children of immigrant parents. These amazing children came from different parts of the world: Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Togo. Our school is under-resourced and donations make a huge impact in the classrooms and our students' learning.
All my students live in a poverty area in the city and our school is systemically underfunded.
The homework folders will be used for weekly homework, the drawstring bags to keep students' headphones so they will last all year long, the plastic sleeves will become math boards during our math lessons. The storage bins will organize the STEM games we use for indoor recess, and the desk files to sort students' activity books during station time. Last, but not least, the world map will be part of our classroom all to be used as reference and the spring bulletin board decorations will showcase students' writing.
Under-resourced schools face difficult challenges every day. But I believe that with the help of others, dedication, and compassion, we can show the world the potential of these beautiful and capable children.
I want to give these children the opportunity to experience a beautiful and fascinating world when they come to school. This way, we will be providing all students with equal opportunities to learn and thrive.
