A Classroom Library to Support Social Studies & Science!
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach in a low-income, very small city surrounded by Detroit, where students' needs extend beyond learning to read. In addition to feeding hungry bellies breakfast, lunch, and snack, we feed them love, acceptance, social skills, and a hands-on, student-led education!
I have the best students! My school and class are very diverse, containing mostly Bengali, Caucasian, African-American, Bosnian, and Yemeni children; many of whom are ESL, and don't speak English at home. They are hard workers though, creative, loving, and enthusiastic!
My Project
These books provide Social Studies content with ELA practice, providing a better learning experience for students, and expanding background knowledge and content interest.
Whenever a teacher can combine two subjects, it benefits both the learner and the teacher!
These books are interesting and relevant, with helpful illustrations and captions. They are age-appropriate yet challenging, covering Social Studies topics such at the Boston Tea Party, Underground Railroad, and important people, also containing biographies in the collection for our annual Wax Museum Black History/Women's History Month projects. Coming from a first grade class to a fifth grade class requires Mrs. K to add to her library books that challenge in addition to books for low-level readers. These books are especially important to have because teaching the American Revolution, core democratic values, and formation of the American government is crucial to the formation of strong citizens! Enrich a child's education and embolden their independence by helping fund our project!
