I have a group of super energetic, excited, friendly students who come to my class ready every morning to have fun and be with their best friends! My class feels like a family in a classroom, a home. Some of my kids don't exactly have the best home life and they come to school to feel safe and loved. I also have quite a few kids on IEPS as this year our kinders have the largest number of special education needs we've seen for years!!
My students are so eager to learn and they range all over the spectrum!
I have students who are reading at level aa all the way to students reading well above level N. I also have students of all nationalities, abilities, and religions. It is a diverse group of students whom I have come to love!
My Project
With a small budget, it is hard to fulfill my goal of representing many diverse pieces of literature in my classroom library. I want all my students to feel included, welcome, loved, and represented through texts they may read independently, in guided reading, and during a class read aloud.
I feel that it is my responsibility to show my students that they are special and recognized through beautiful words and illustrations in books that will stay with them forever.
It is important to me that I can include as many of my students as I can in the books they are exposed to at an early age. I want to include books representing different types of families, disabilities, nationalities, cultures, and religions.
With these materials, it would be an amazing first step in the right direction!
