Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are kindergartners who are eager to learn as much as they can and love reading and read alouds. They are 31 English Language Learners who will first learn their letters, sounds, and high frequency words, and then, once they've progressed enough, will learn to read in English. Some of them have special needs, and they all come from a high poverty area: 95% poverty. It is not uncommon for their parents to hold two or three jobs! Despite all of this, my students come to school happy and eager to learn!

My Project

My students who are English Language Learners have a special liking to these read alouds because their understanding is more easily reached with these wonderful-well illustrated books. My students reap from the benefits of being read to and will enjoy "rereading" these wonderful books during library time. Our classroom is lacking a leveled-classroom library so that my students can begin the introduction of a new world of imagination and exploration that the library books will bring.
