My Students
How can children know the right way to behave if they've never been taught?
My students attend an overcrowded inner-city school.
Due to increasing budget cuts, there will be more than 30 first graders crammed into a room. 100% of our students receive free lunch. There is so much to do and learn but all too often, class work must stop to resolve problems that result from bad behavior on a student's part.
My Project
I have selected books that can be used to help students learn about good behavior. These will be used to read aloud and we will spend time talking about making good choices in the the way we act and treat other. I would like to use these stories as a jumping off point for role playing and art work that stresses the way we should be acting.
Imagine coming from a home or community where manners aren't stressed and then having to play by rules you don't know!
These books and lessons will help my students learn how to get along in the world. All too soon, they will be grown-ups and I want them to be the best ones they can be. Please help.
