This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach middle school English to recent immigrants (71% of our population) and minorities (99% of our population) in one of the most impoverished communities in the West.

This year my school is facing the worst economic struggle since the Great Depression. This includes huge class sizes (my largest is 42), school closures, lay-offs (I have been laid off and rehired twice in the last three months), and a possible strike. While other schools in the country surround their students with the latest and greatest in technology, we must scrimmage for the basics.

I already use my personal laptop for teaching, but unfortunately I cannot afford a projector to demonstrate any essential computer and web-based technology to my students. A LCD projector will allow me to show vital videos, PowerPoint presentations, and use interactive software with my students. And, as a matter of higher importance, my students will then be able to use the projector to give their own presentations on projects to the class. To me, allowing my students to leave my classroom without these vital skills would be leaving them without a true and contemporary education.

With your help I will be able to bring equality back to my students. They will be able to compete with other students in the same grade levels across the country and learn the necessary skills for today's modern world! Thank you!
