Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are some of the best people I know. They are caring, introspective, curious, and tenacious when it comes to our learning community. They surprise me everyday with their creativity and ingenuity. I strive to be a person in their lives that can instill in them a love of learning, skills and a variety of ways to build knowledge, and empowerment to grow as much as they want to, and they are always asking to do more Science work!

My Project

My students love inspiring stories about diverse characters written by authors of color. They present a refreshing perspective and framing that builds the self-esteem and love of reading for my students of color, and empathy, support, and compassion from all of my students, while at the same time, they develop literary analysis skills that help them to engage in other texts.

Students also need fresher, engaging books and stories they can relate to in order to help discover a love of reading.

Using book sets for small groups and the entire class, we can learn, connect, and have a shared experience that bonds us over the years.
