This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The best way to encourage excitement and motivation is to immerse one’s self fully... that is why we’re so excited to participate in Read Across America week, and culminate with a celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday! This year, it’s been a struggle to get my students to read independently. Most of my students are have some sort of disability that makes it harder for them to grasp concepts quickly, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, autism, or speech and language impairments. I’m hoping that by having the students dress up as two of Dr. Seuss’s most beloved characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2, will bring the characters to life for them and encourage them to use active reading skills to visualize and make inferences about the stories they read. Many of my students struggle with these skills due to ADHD. We are asking for red shirts to provide the students, as well as headbands to represent the wild blue hair of the Things. We are excited to bring literacy to life in the classroom and make learning fun for all students!
