This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a Spanish Emphasis school and we have several cultural events with Cinco de Mayo being one of the biggest! We consider this event a school-wide trip to Mexico. Cinco de Mayo provides the perfect opportunity to teach children about Mexican traditions in a fun way. Students will learn about the history and the true meaning of the event by reading books and watching videos. Each grade level will perform with a skit, song, and/or dance that represents the history. Students who learn about different cultures during their education feel more comfortable and safe with these differences later in life. This allows them to interact in a wider range of social groups and feel more confident in themselves as well as in their interactions with others.

Not only do decorations help to create a more engaging and welcoming atmosphere for my students but they also function as ways of engaging students with other aspects of school life and the world around them.

The decorations and banners add a colorful and exciting element to the festivities and the symbols create a joyous atmosphere and highlight aspects of Mexican culture.
