My Students
My students currently have limited access to computers and technology. In our increasingly technology-driven 21st century world, this doesn't provide enough time to learn all the skills necessary for success in school and beyond. Up-to-date technology has become even more vital in today's classroom!
Our school is one of three magnet schools for the gifted and talented program offered by the school district.
My students are a bright, creative, and inquisitive group of sixth graders from a variety of different socioeconomic circumstances. They are excited about learning and are eager to embrace challenges set before them. Most would like to get a college education and are already considering professional careers such as medicine and astronomy. They need guided experiences in school that integrate technology and learning in ways that help them develop their abilities to research and to think critically about the information and situations they encounter. My goal is to help them develop their skills and talents as learners so they can broaden their horizons and be successful in the many future endeavors that await them.
My Project
I am requesting a Chromebook as the first step in building a classroom "lab" of functioning, up-to-date computers available to students at all times. Students will use the Chromebook in class throughout the day to reinforce important concepts and skills as well as to provide the kind of enrichment and challenge gifted students need to thrive.
Because of its versatility, the Chromebook will be used throughout the year as an important tool to help students demonstrate their in-depth mastery of Utah State standards, 21st Century standards, and ISTE/NETS standards. Students will learn to develop their skills in critical thinking, collaboration, research, and public presentations as well as public speaking as well as the use and application of current technology.
This project will directly enhance all aspects of the curriculum. Students will have the ability to actively participate in many authentic learning experiences where they can apply academic skills in a real world contex
Chromebooks create the opportunity for many collaborative learning experiences.
Students can create presentations as well as electronic learning portfolios to teach and remember concepts. They can engage in online reading and writing discussions and work together on projects. Collaborative higher-order thinking projects enhance student engagement, learning, and achievement. Their ability to master new technology and to use it wisely is unbounded if we are provide them with ample opportunities
