My Students

My students attend school in a small district that stands behind traditions and a small community that comes together in good times and bad. They don't get the benefits of bigger schools like a variety of electives. They also don't get the technology other districts have because the funding just isn't there. Although they lack the benefits of bigger schools, they understand how there are no excuses once they leave here and continue their education. They fight hard in class, in their sports, and in all extracurricular activities. These students are special to me because they never stop believing they are the best and nothing will get in their way.

My Project

For years I have had my students create the best Christmas Fairy Tales, encouraging them to be creative and teach the young students a lesson through their story. Once the sophomores write their Christmas Fairy Tales, they read them to the elementary students in grades kindergarten through second grade. Usually I print them out for them or some get really artistic and make their own books to display their stories and illustrations. Every year this project has been a success and even through Covid, we made the project work by making power points and recording the readings to share. This year I want to take it one step further and give the books to the children as a Christmas gift. In order to make this work, the students need a paper back book that will contain their Christmas Fairy Tales. I can not wait to see the looks on the children's faces when they get to take the books home to read over and over again.
