A Christmas Carol - Class Set

My Students

My students love to read. Most of them are all-too-familiar with the classics, thanks to popular culture. Now is their opportunity to read Dickens for the first time.

My students attend a fantastic school that focuses on project-based learning (PBL).

As a result of our literature studies, that means that students will go through the entire process of creating a novel. They will storyboard, write, type, revise, edit, illustrate and create extras, like a table of contents, dedication page, about the author page and title page. They will then build their books from raw materials, using glue, needles and thread. What would help this process more than exposure to classic English literature?

My Project

My students will read this annotated version of A Christmas Carol during the month of December and we will also listen to the audiobook, performed by Patrick Stewart. As they read, students will complete several activities, including the creation of illustrated story hills and an exploration of central message and character change. The beautiful illustrations will help them during the creation of these products.

This annotated version has several advantages over similar texts.

First, it contains fantastic illustrations which will help young students connect with a story that is over 150 years old. Next, It preserves Dickens' original language, which is a must for me. Finally, it is a beautiful hardcover that will last for many years. I think my students will end the month knowing the power of classic literature and never look at Christmas, or reading, the same way.
