My students are English Language learners primarily in the 1st and 2nd-grade. My students dream of being doctors and lawyers. I don’t want poverty to stop their dreams from becoming reality. They come from low-income households and have limited opportunities to be on the same playing field as their peers.
For the most part, our students perform below grade level.
They live in an urban area with many challenges, in and out of school. Many are not literate in their native tongue. Learning the English language is a challenge for many of them. By providing incentives for good behavior, such as kindness, students will spend more time learning and making good choices.
As an ESL Teacher, I typically work with small groups. When I call a group over, often there are not enough chairs. We must get chairs from other student's desks. This is both time wasting and dangerous. If I could have a few more chairs for the classes I go into, we can keep them at the table. The kids will be happy and we can get straight to work!
In addition, I am hoping to get a projector.
If I am lucky enough to receive one, I can use this cart to set up the projector and have it ready to go for lessons or pictures I need to show the students. As language learners, they often need visuals to help with comprehension. This will allow us all to view the visuals or work together on a task.
