Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

One thing I love to do with my students is to have classroom transformation to solidify the learning of the more difficult concepts. It allows my students to apply real world knowledge to new concepts. For example, students will use conversions and fractions to figure out the exact formula to make the perfect donut recipe. When they have cracked the case they will be allowed to join me at the donut station, pizza station, or even the drink station. These hands on days make all of the difference in learning, and boosts the classroom climate.

When concepts, rigor, and work load start to wear down my students I like to kick up the fun just a bit higher than normal.

The classroom climate is a very important part of learning. When the classroom environment feels low and lacks fun, the learning lulls a bit as well. Even though this is already April there is plenty of learning time left. This is about the time of year students begin to loose focus , and get lax on rules and procedures. My goal is to keep the learning environment strong through fun hands-on activities where students will use measurement skills, capacity, division, and so many more skills as we pretend to be owners of various different types of stores and businesses.

These small gadgets will add an extra layer of fun in our classroom environment. Our Bakery Day, Pizzeria, and "Starbooks" will really help keep our classroom climate positive, rigorous, and lively. As always, creating these items together eliminates the extra waste that you would get if you were purchasing individual treats to being into the classroom. We always have an eye on helping to reduce waste.
