My Students

My students are amazing and are ready to start a successful school year. My talented students are doing their best to overcome both their academic and/or social-emotional challenges. The students at my high school come from diverse backgrounds, many represent low socioeconomic statuses, and reside in an urban area. When they are at the point where they doubt that they can not overcome a challenge or find a solution to a problem, it is then that I remind them that they are not alone and we are here for them.

My Project

Black Lives Matter at School is a national coalition organizing for racial justice in education. It is a time where we encourage all of our teachers, students, and parents to join our annual week of action during the first week of February. It is important that our students learn about the role that racism, sexism, and oppression have played throughout U.S. history.

I am excited that this school year I have developed engaging and creative activities for my students to compete as we learn about the Black Lives Matter Movement and celebrate black history.

My students will utilize their creativity and artistic skills by designing Black Lives Matter t-shirts, buttons, and magnets. They will also complete a Black Lives Matter concrete poetry piece on black canvas. The goal of our lessons and activities is to challenge racism, oppression, and provide students with the vocabulary and tools needed to take action for positive change.
