My Project

When we think back to elementary school and our children's classrooms, we often immediately think of a carpet where students can gather to be with their peers, work with their teacher and comfortably organize themselves to sit and learn or circle up. This is exactly what my classroom is missing! My class is witty, fun, and determined to learn. They have the potential to reach great heights and are so excited to learn. I have noticed more than ever that this year my students need to come to the front of the room to learn at a rug, but in our school, 3rd grade was not supplied with rugs and only K-2 was. I am thinking this was due to space constraints, but my classroom has plenty of room for a rug now that I have reorganized the space. For this reason, I am asking for your donations in order to help us get a classroom rug for our the front of our room so we have a space to come together and meet as a classroom family and a small rug for the classroom library so that it is more comfortable and helpful for learning the US Map. The social emotional effects of covid and wide academic gap amongst students right now is significant and not socializing “normally” through K-2 impacted students in their ability to work together, socialize and come together in a designated area of the room without the guidance of a rug. A rug that is prominent, will help encourage this space for students to learn at and give us the opportunity to assign letters to students on the rug to help regulate behaviors as well. My students ask me all the time if we can get a rug for our room, so we are hopeful!
