A Carpet for Music and Dancing Activities in the South Side of Chicago

I am a general music teacher in the south side of Chicago. My classes include teaching general music to students in grades K-8. Our school is fortunate to have a full time music teacher, and I am in the early stages of furnishing the music room with teacher resource books, student music books, music instruments, recordings, and now carpeting. The chairs in the music room are designed for older students. Students of all ages, grades K-8, must use these chairs while in music class. The youngest students understandably fidget when they sit in furniture that is too large. The music room I teach in has no carpet, and I do not want to ask students to sit or dance on the linoleum floor for safety reasons. A student could easily be hurt if I asked them to dance on a slippery floor. The students are missing out on important elements of music instruction because of this. The younger students can do only limited dance and movement activities due to limitations of the room and furniture. Ideally, a general music classroom would have wall-to-wall carpeting so students in grades K-2 could sit on the carpet. The younger students would then be free to dance when appropriate and would be able to pick up and put down class room instruments without a risk of breaking them on the floor. They would be free to perform the dance and movement activities. If there were a carpet in the music room, there would no risk of a child slipping when students performed dance and movement activities. For this proposal, I am requesting two large carpets (each carpet measures 8' 4" by 12') that will cover an open area of the music room. In this open area, students in grades K-2 will sit on the floor for appropriate general music class. On this carpeting, they will dance and perform movement activities. This means students in kindergarten will no longer have to sit in the "too big" chairs while in music class. Instead, these students will be able to perform age and musically appropriate activities in class. Thank you for your generosity.
