My Students
In our low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. These adverse experiences may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not. We do what we can, and many of my students receive a care package at the beginning of the year with clothes, shoes, toiletries and a book from Operation School Bell.
My students want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly help their experience during the school day.
My Project
Every month we look at the entire month. What's coming up on our schedule and what do we have to look forward to, any birthdays? Students raise their hands a let me know. They look forward to celebrating with their classmates. We make sure that every student signs the card with a short message or with their just their name. Small gestures can go a long way to brighten up a child's day. Students who have birthdays while we are on break, I make sure to mail them a special note too!
