This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor and privilege of working with an amazing group of students from Kindergarten through 4th grade. They come to my classroom each day ready to learn, never allowing their challenges with reading and writing to deter them from doing their best.
One of the best qualities of my students is their ability to show kindness and compassion for others.
As struggling learners, they understand what it feels like to be discouraged, sad, and even frustrated. I am always in awe of how they support each other during our reading sessions. The materials I am requesting for our Campaign for Compassion will provide my students opportunities to spread their compassion for others beyond our classroom walls. With the card making supplies, they can create "compassion cards" to share with others who may need a little encouragement. The motivational pencils can be shared with students who may be struggling academically as a way to encourage them to keep trying. The beads and string can be used to make friendship bracelets for those who are new to the school or who just need a friend. And snacks will be at the ready for a friend who may be hungry.
Your support will make a significant impact in both my students' social emotional growth, as well as in our school community. It also serves as a meaningful way for my students to practice their literacy skills. As they create messages of kindness, I will be able to measure both their growth in literacy and their understanding of what it means be compassionate and to be able to see the world through someone else's eyes.
