Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, I have the honor of teaching yoga to every student in the school and building out a program that allows students to teach each other.
As school is a difficult place for many young people, it is deeply important that we are able to offer yoga in a space where students feel comfortable.
Our students deserve to connect to their breath and emotions in a supportive environment.
Through the donations of plants, lighting materials and breath work stickers, we are creating a calming environment for young people. The instruction in this space will teach students skills for their own regulation as well as build a stronger classroom community. This is why this project is necessary. We need the space to FEEL good, to encourage students to be more comfortable taking risks for their own social-emotional growth.
MS50 is vibrant community full of supportive staff and caring students, who need a calm space in their building that doesn't feel like a classroom or office. Every student in the building will use this room and benefit from this project. We appreciate your support!
