My Project
The primary goal for this project is to provide students with a safe space to de-escalate and take a break. The school day can be overwhelming... loud lunchrooms, changes to classes, and tiredness are just a few things that could contribute to a student feeling dysregulated.
Sensory rooms are specially designed environments that provide a range of stimuli to help individuals develop and regulate their senses.
These spaces are especially beneficial for students with sensory processing disorders, autism, ADHD, and other special needs, but they can also serve as a refuge for any student seeking a calm and soothing atmosphere.
In the school environment, sensory rooms can play a crucial role in supporting emotional and behavioral regulation. For students who experience sensory overload, these rooms offer a controlled setting to regain composure and avoid meltdowns. They also provide an alternative to traditional disciplinary measures, focusing on understanding and meeting the sensory needs of the student.
The students of King College Prep HS desperately need a space that is welcoming and safe to de-escalate. By donating you will help our diverse learners develop ways to regulate their senses and emotions.
