My Project
My classroom is home to 47 amazing students with special needs who experience big emotions every day. Many of them struggle with self-regulation, sensory processing, and staying calm during moments of frustration or overstimulation. That’s why I want to create a safe, cozy, and functional calming corner—a space where students can go when they’re feeling overwhelmed and need to reset.
To build this calming space, I’ve selected items that combine comfort, organization, and sensory support:
FDP Birch Storage Bench with a Soft Blue Seat will provide cozy seating and accessible storage for calming tools, books, or stuffed animals.
Lakeshore Storage Trays will help keep emotion cards, fidget items, and sensory tools organized for student use.
A Big Joe Sports Bean Bag Chair adds playful comfort and encourages students to rest and decompress.
The Flagship “All Types of Feelings” Rug will anchor the space with visual cues to help students identify and express emotions.
A Bissell Carpet Sweeper helps keep the area tidy, even with high use.
The Fayquaze Foldable Lap Desk allows students to draw, journal, or do quiet work while seated on the floor in a calming posture.
This calming corner will not just be a place to “take a break”—it will be a sanctuary for self-awareness, emotional growth, and safety. With your help, my students will have a structured and welcoming environment to help them regain control and return to learning with confidence.
