Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, excited about learning, and funny! They represent a unique demographic within my school district given that they are in a Dual Immersion biliteracy program in English and Spanish.

All of my students have been affected in some way by the current pandemic.

For many of them, this will be the first time attending school in-person.

My Project

The optimal state for student learning is a calm one. When students feel physically and emotionally safe, their brains are ready to learn. In my classroom, students have learned about the importance of recognizing one's own emotions and they've practiced strategies, such as taking deep breaths and counting to 10, for times when an emotion feels too big.

These materials will help me support students' ability to self-regulate, by creating a safe space in our room where they can take a moment to quiet their minds and bodies.

This designated space supports students in developing the social-emotional skills that will help them achieve greater success in the classroom, on the playground, and in their community.
