My Project
This year, our students have embraced an interest in horticulture. We have analyzed the different parts of an Aerogarden, watched the seed pods grow into young plants, and lovingly tended to them by adding water and plant food as needed. They enthusiastically check on the plants first thing in the morning and periodically throughout the day. We are so thankful that we have been given the opportunity to learn about plants by having a relatively self-sufficient plant growing system.
Now we would like to extend their learning of plants' needs by using what knowledge they have gained from watching these hydroponic systems and creating their own growing environments.
They will do this by manipulating different growing conditions -- amount of light, differing soil composition, and levels of humidity. They will research different types of plants and try to duplicate their natural environments. Then they will observe how successfully their plants will respond to this before considering if they need to make any adjustments in their design.
