Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Second graders are full of energy and ready to learn. They seek opportunities to inquire and love to feel the success of new endeavors. I love providing my students with opportunities to grow, expand their school experiences and take responsibility over their learning through choice. My students come from a diverse set of backgrounds and socioeconomic situations that allow for many opportunities for learning, but sometimes having an equally diverse set of materials to inspire that love of learning is just what they need to kickstart their motivation.

My Project

My students need a kid-friendly, organized library with books at their independent level. My current library baskets are too small for larger picture books, causing books to tear. We spend a great deal of instructional time learning how to respect books and make appropriate book choices. An organized, age-appropriate library will allow students to take greater ownership of their choices when book shopping!

A bright and organized library will be the focal point of my classroom and send the message to my students that reading is an important part of classroom community.

Book baskets that are labeled and easily accessible will provide a comfortable experience for children to browse and choose appropriate books for their daily reading.

By providing my struggling readers with enough texts to appeal to their interests, my library will be accessible to ALL students and inspire an inclusive learning environment.
