My Students

My school is in a high-poverty area and receives Title One Federal funding. I am a teacher-librarian of a pre-k through fifth-grade elementary school. Our school is 100% free lunch in a high-poverty neighborhood in our community. I have been at this school for one year. The students are falling behind due to the pandemic. Reading needs to be the main focus for many of our students. Our students need to feel at home in the library and have easy access to the materials to help promote reading and natural curiosity of information.

The students need consistency in education.

They also need adult attention that may be missing in their lives during these challenging times. Our students are curious and active, and I want to create a space to tap into that and provide a safe atmosphere.

My Project

The clear containers will help the students access books to take home to read or for research. They will be able to find the books easily and independently. The bins will help increase book checkout in the library and provide more reading materials for the students to take home. The more the students read, the more their vocabulary will grow. I want to make an inviting and accessible library for all the students to use. The containers will make it easier for the students to access books to take home for reading.
