A Book is a Gift You Can Open Over and Over Again.
My students need books and power pens in order to help improve their fluency, recognition of words and comprehension of literature. They need books that will peek their interest.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students do not have access to everything they need to become productive citizens in society. My students are disadvantaged when it comes to language and filling that gap is one of my main focuses. Encouraging these children to read and find books they like is the key to helping them improve.
Our school faces many challenges when it comes to the students and their backgrounds.
We are located in a dangerous area, where poverty is high and literacy is low. Coming from many bilingual homes, these students do not get the exposure to the English language that they need in order to improve in certain aspects of school. My students are not on grade level for reading, writing and math and are diagnosed with multiple and varied disabilities. Finding books they enjoy reading, as well as looking at and listening to the English language, will help them to see their true potential. My students come to school thinking it is a task and not something worth their while. I want to give them the tools they need to feel successful and realize they are and can be more than they think.
My Project
These books will be used to grow our existing library into a library the students are proud of. Creating a diverse library of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and core subject books, will allow my students to feel confident and successful inside the classroom. My end goal is to see their reading levels and comprehension levels increase, and to see the skills they learn inside school transfer to their lives outside of school. Being able to have stations where students can use their skills of comprehension and cognitive retell, will help to promote and foster independence inside the classroom.
Giving my students access to materials they would not normally be able to attain, is true success in itself.
Seeing these students come from poverty stricken home lives, I don't want them to feel they do not have the tools they need to achieve bigger and better goals. My students will greatly appreciate the variety of books that speak to them and their interests. It may not happen over night, but my students deserve to have the best education and I will stop at nothing to make sure they do.
