My Project
I am a teacher in a special education class that services two different grades. Currently I am teaching 4th and 5th grade. With that being said, my students are reading across a spectrum of levels. It has been very hard to find them accessible reading material that caters to their individual needs.
Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn in school, yet we are not provided with enough appropriate AND updated reading materials by our state or district.
Even though I teach in an upper grade, there is little thought or attention that goes into making sure the books provided are equitable for the children in each class. This then falls on the teachers to find and pay for books that the kids will be drawn to. In addition, Teachers Pay Teachers has been a lifesaver when I need to find supplementary work and activities for the kids that are aligned to their individual needs. I use it many times a week and even post my own projects I have created!
