My students need a book organizer, rack, carpet and bean bag seats for a comfortable, inviting and organized spot to sit and explore the stories and books in our classroom library.
We are fortunate enough to have a nice selection of books in our classroom library. Currently they are being stored in plastic bins, which makes it difficult for children to see and access the stories they are looking for. A warm, comfortable spot will invite children to curl up with a good book!
I have a class full of 18 bright, inquisitive kindergarten kids.
We are an urban low-income school that serves a very diverse population of students grades kindergarten through fifth grade. I have a very diverse group of children who read at different grade levels and have very different interests from dinosaurs to princesses and everything in between.
My Project
With these materials, I can provide a warm, friendly inviting environment where kids can curl up and share a book with a friend. I find that the children choose the same book over and over again, because the bins they are currently held in, don't provide a good view of the many titles available. With a soft rug, and fat bean bag chairs and organized storage the library space will be a more inviting spot they will choose to visit over and over again. There is nothing like seeing a child when they connect with a good book.
I have readers of all levels in my classroom.
For some, our classroom library is the only place where they have access to quality children's books. I want to instill the love of reading to all my students, not just those who are fortunate to own books of their own.
