Help me give my students books about characters who are experiencing similar struggles and racial injustice they face every single day.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Still's classroom raised $589

My Project
The AMAZING scholars at our charter school are resilient and strong with a desire to learn and grow. The materials and resources afforded them in Baltimore City is so disparate and simple materials like books that you expect in every classroom are not abundantly available at our Charter School. After teaching in a more affluent district in Maryland, I am on a mission to secure equity in resources for all students but particularly my students with disabilities in 9th-12th grade with this project. My students with disabilities are not provided with the same resources that are available to more affluent school districts in Maryland and they deserve more!
In my classroom, when a student shows interest in one or more of my books, they know I will let them read it and keep it in order for them to not only engage in interesting and relatable stories, but to empower them to want to become more literate young adults in a very difficult world.
By providing texts with more familiar characters and similar life experiences faced daily in the lives of my students living in an urban area, I can open the doors to new experiences and empowerment to reach for the stars. Novels that are representative of people in their community and family make texts less intimidating and more accessible for students who don't even have a well-stocked library at their school. Your donation can provide what should be a basic provision in all schools nationwide but is so devastatingly disparate in the inner city: new BOOKS.
Thank you for helping me level the trajectory for our students in Baltimore City by giving to this campaign and others that support inner city students. This is only the beginning for my students!
