My Students

Imagine a classroom where students spend time comfortably sprawled around their classroom having found the perfect cozy spot to read their new favorite book. That’s what I dream about for my 4th graders.

97% of my students live below the poverty level.

They do not have the luxury of having their own home library. They have grown accustomed to reading hand me down , dog-eared books. Many of these books depict characters they cannot relate to or that outdated ideas and facts.

I would love for my students to have the experience of reading brand new, current and relevant books where they can see themselves, learn about the world they currently live in and learn meaningful lessons from the past.

My Project

I’m starting a new 4th grade position this August and I am in serious need of some classroom library books. If I expect to inspire my students to be avid and enthusiastic readers, I will need to offer them books that are engaging, memorable and text they can see themselves in or dream themselves into.

Reading is the gateway to all other learning and I want to open each gate wide and give access to my students to a world they feel they belong to and are inspired to serve.

Please help my cause by donating to our amazing school where we teach with purpose and intention and place students first.

As a child that grew up in poverty myself, books became my window to a new world. I will begin my 23rd year in education and I still consider reading the most important skill we teach. Please help me create an amazing library for some amazing students.
