My Students

Imagine walking into a school with hundreds of children. You are only five years old and have only attended preschool with many fewer students. Or maybe you didn't go to preschool and this is your very first school experience.

I want my kids to learn to have fun in this big school!

I have students with various ethnic backgrounds, including some that just moved here from other countries within the past month. I also have three students that will be joining us from a self-contained classroom. The majority of my classroom is comprised of boys (66%).

My Project

Each child will have a book bag with books that they choose at their own level. Students will be more interested in reading when they are able to self select the books from a variety of engaging titles. They will use these books to read with a partner and read silently as well. Students will become fluent readers as they feel success reading books that are just right for them. Students will get excited from knowing these books are in their own bag for each student. Let's get these kids excited about learning one of the most important life skill!
