This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach fifth graders that belong to different backgrounds and ethnicities in San Jose, California. My students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and inquiring learners who love to learn each day. They are remarkably inspired to learn and do their best in school.
I teach at an exceptional, diverse, and distinctive school in California where more than 71% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My students speak many different languages like Spanish, Vietnamese, Greek, Tagalog, or Dutch at home. We always celebrate the things that make us different, and the things that make us the same. This wonderful class is a family at school.
My Project
Each of my students works with an extraordinary eagerness to learn and become inventive during my instructional time. I want my 5th grade students to feel welcome and worthy when coming back virtually to school.
A book is the best tool a teacher can offer to any student.
I am requesting for your help to offer a book for every 5th grader at home at this time. This book is about “ Forms of Government” but in a global concept where students can learn different types of government around the world.
We normally have a “Read Aloud” time at school that I will like to continue with Distant Learning. If I have a book for every student at home, I am able to frontload vocabulary and questions to create an inspiring and robust discussion that provokes powerful and lasting “learning”. I can visualize my students working in collaborative groups to deepen their understanding and ask clarification questions and/or add information to one another ’s knowledge. I can then support in small group instruction and then bring all students together to share out their group’s thoughts as we would in a classroom.
