Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever looked for something creative to do on a clear day? Why not take a trip outside to let nature inspire you? Drawing outside is known as "Plein Air" drawing. Literally translated, this French term means "in the open air".

I teach at a title one school with an large Hispanic population.

I currently teach every child in the school for 30 minutes a week. I would love for my students to be able to experience art more often. Every child in the school will be introduced to the new materials and Plein air drawing in art with a unit entitled meet the Expessionist. During the unit students will have the opportunity to draw in the gardens we have on campus and use the easel boards and drawing pencils. They will be able to practice shadding techniques previously learned.

My Project

Art has a special way of reaching all students and art inspires people. Art is a powerful vehicle of communication and we should keep it alive in schools. Art is such an important process in self expression, creative thinking, and visualization and helps children become life long learners. Having these new art materials available can help my students learn to make better decisions and allow them a vehicle for self expression. I believe art lays a foundation for students that they will return to their homes to enjoy life to the fullest. My time with these students is limited and I want to make sure that they are getting to create every chance they get. Students will be able to use these materials in art as well as during free recess on a check out basis. Through the extra drawing time the students will gain a better understanding of the elements and principles of design in new ways that will continue to show in their artwork in class.

I feel every child should have the opportunity to express themselves through the arts.

With the funding from this project I will be able to open the doors for those creative students who might become our next Monet or Van Gogh. Your help and support will ensure that my students continue to explore art in new ways. My personal belief is that art is an opportunity to experience life without a right or wrong answer. Our children can learn about decision making and freedom of their own minds without the stress of a test waiting for them at the end.
